Darudi
Directed By Atish Indrekar, Ruchika Kodekar
Darudi is a word in the Bhantu language that means "liquor." This film explores the lives of the Chhara community, who have been unfairly stigmatized as "criminals" since they used to be ‘notified’ as born criminals during British colonial rule. As a result of this enduring societal prejudice, many Chhara women are compelled to brew liquor as a means of survival—an act that is illegal in the dry state of Gujarat. However, a small but determined segment of the community are engaging in small businesses in an effort to break free from this stigma.
