Artists globally experienced great challenges during the Covid 19 pandemic. This particular podcast touches upon the hardships experienced by the tribal artists of Chhota Udepur district of Gujarat. Chhota Udepur is known for several arts and craft—Pithoro painting, pottery, wooden sculptures, Kasota weave, cane work, bead jewellery and stone craft. Through interviews with several artists in the area, this podcast brings to light the plight of rural artists when markets remained closed, people had little or no income to buy art and craft, travel curbs had brought tourists to a halt and many artists were compelled to go for labour work. However, this too was difficult as work was irregular and physical distancing protocols brought their own challenges. It was a struggle for survival for artists, whichever art form they practised.
