Badva, Bhuva, Vaidya on Covid 19

This podcast presents the role of badvas in Chhota Udepur district during the Covid 19 pandemic. Badvas play a very significant role in Adivasi (tribal) society by taking care of all community rites and rituals, guiding the community in times of calamities and holding a vast knowledge resource of traditional medicine. This podcast covers interviews with local badwas who give their perspective of the pandemic and Covid-19. Since badvas hold responsibility of protecting the community from harm and calamity, they played an important role in trying to meet the challenges of Covid 19. The badvas in Chhota Udepur understand the Covid 19 pandemic as ‘vay vagharu’—an idea of the pandemic inherent in their knowledge and beliefs—that occurs when there is a change in air. The badvas covered in the podcast claim the successful use of local herbs in curing the fever and other symptoms that marks Covid-19. They speak of the power of their herbal remedies along with their mantras (chants) that helped them cure many local people from the Covid 19 infection and save lives.
