This podcast captures the impact of Covid 19 pandemic on education in the tribal district of Chhota Udepur. When the schools closed down at the start of the pandemic, many educational institutions began to offer online studies in urban areas. However, in the rural areas, especially the remote villages that do not have mobile connectivity, parents and children found themselves at a loss. Many migrants lost their livelihoods when they had to return home due to the national lockdown in India. Local traders, artists and small vendors were placed in great distress when the local marketplaces were closed to curb the infection. Most tribal families in the district do not own smartphones and have only a single cell phone at home. So even when the local government schools in the district began to offer online classes, most children could not access these. The local government school teachers thus started holding community schools in the villages. However, the pandemic heavily pushed impacted education and children have had to cope with huge learning deficits.
